Mechanical/Electrical – Preconstruction Quantity Surveyor/In-House Cost Estimator

Job Overview

Experienced in-house quantity surveyor/cost estimator with a comprehensive understanding of project design requirements, specifications, and issued design documents relative to large technically complex project’s mechanical and electrical systems.

  • Comprehensive understanding of contract documents (drawings and specifications), phasing plans, MEP systems interrelationships, construction sequencing and project schedule
  • Assist in the scope review, budgeting and justification of MEP change work order
  • Systems take-off, pricing, and cost accuracy and assessment through the entirety of the design phase into the construction phase
  • Communication of systems take-off and pricing to internal staff and site personnel
  • Validate MEP design issues and suggest alternative solutions to team
  • Liaison with Fortis MEP estimating and preconstruction staff and subcontractors
  • Liaison with project wwners to define and communicate construction costs


  • Engineering working knowledge of plans, prints, specifications and schematics associated with mechanical & electrical systems
  • 5 years of construction experience with working knowledge of mechanical, electrical and plumbing construction procedures and practices is a plus
  • Computer literate possess excellent communication and organizational skills
  • Extensive previous mechanical & electrical estimating experience
  • Cost Engineering degree and/or certifications are a plus
  • Experience in WinEst program, Accubid or relevant estimating systems
  • Experience working in Bluebeam and Excel formats and formulas
  • Mission critical estimating experience is desired
  • Experience working in large teams and fast-paced environments
  • Self-motivated with the ability to see the big picture while not losing focus of details
