East County Library Receives AIA Oregon Honor Award

The East County Library project recently received the AIA Oregon Honor Award at the annual AIA Oregon Architecture Awards. The award recognizes excellence in architectural design and celebrates projects that contribute to Oregon’s built environment.

Serving approximately 40% of Multnomah County’s population, the library was designed to evoke the experience of being in a forest through the use of exposed mass timber throughout the structure. An AIA Oregon Awards juror noted, “East County Library’s mass timber construction is confident enough to show its full structural logic, façade tectonics, through to section and details with nothing concealed.”

The project was also featured in Architectural Record, highlighting the community-focused approach and long-term planning that shaped the library’s design and construction.

Fortis was awarded the 95,000sf, two-story library project in 2022, the largest project from the $387M bond measure to expand and modernize Multnomah County Library facilities.

These recognitions reflect the collaboration and dedication of Fortis, Holst, and the many partners who contributed to the project’s success.
