Fortis Makes an Impact Combating Food Insecurity

In September, employees at Fortis Construction came together for Hard Hats Against Hunger, this year’s annual Extraordinary Service Project.

In previous years, Fortis has sent teams to Eswatini and Rwanda to complete infrastructure projects including building bridges and creating access to clean water. This year, the company turned its focus closer to home, partnering with local organizations to help address food insecurity in the communities where its employees live and work.

Over five days, 523 Fortis team members volunteered more than 1,500 hours in support of 10 nonprofit organizations across seven states. Teams contributed to a variety of projects, including facility maintenance and upgrades to farmer-assistance organizations, fresh produce harvesting, farm and equipment storage expansion, food pantry construction and stocking, meal preparation, food distribution efforts, and meal services.

In Cheyenne, the team built food pantries that will allow Needs Inc. to provide food for the community over the weekend – something the organization has never been able to do before. In Oregon, over 1,000 plates of food were served at the Blanchet House. In New Mexico, volunteers not only helped stock and organize the food pantry, they also renovated the non-profits restroom.

This work reflects Fortis’ core purpose and ongoing commitment to making an impact.
