Following successful efforts on the University of Portland’s active campus, such as the award-winning Dundon-Berchtold Hall, Fortis was asked to build out the Nelson Family Simulated Ambulatory Care Center. Located on the third floor of the occupied Buckley Center, Fortis developed detailed logistics plans to avoid disruptions for School of Nursing students, staff and visitors in adjacent spaces. The 4,200sf Center involved a variety of specialized rooms for nursing-student learning and training, including Exam Rooms, Simulated Apartments, and Telehealth Rooms; these rooms include camera-monitoring and recording systems to practice and learn within simulated care-giving environments. Fortis also created a new lobby and offices for School of Nursing faculty. The entire project was completed in 90 days.
