The Early Learning Center at Earl Boyles Elementary was created as a prototype for early child development and education. The $5.8M project consisted of a 10,000sf modernization combined with a 19,000sf addition. Supporting 90 high-needs children and their families, the project created four full-day kindergarten classrooms, three preschool classrooms, a developmentally appropriate learning/play outdoor courtyard, and a neighborhood center. The neighborhood center provides: a computer and book resource center, meeting space, parenting classes, observation rooms for teaching development, health and social services, adult learning classes, and a community kitchen. The teaching and learning spaces are used by a team that offers mixed expertise in kindergarten, Head Start and Early Childhood Special Education.
