Meta, Forest City Campus

When Meta’s Rutherford, North Carolina, campus came online in 2011, it was one of the most energy-efficient projects of its type in the world. Cutting-edge at the time, new energy-efficiency technologies were integrated including an evaporative cooling system and an airside economizer that bring in 100% ambient air. The facility re-uses server heat to warm office space in the colder months, and a patented electrical design reduces electricity usage. Overall, the campus represents more than $750 million of data center investment in North Carolina and is LEED Gold Certified.
