OSU’s Fairbanks Hall was built in 1892, making it one of the most historic and enduring buildings on the Corvallis campus. When it came time for a major $14M, 37,000sf modernization, the University turned to Fortis based on a history of complex and historic successes in Corvallis.

The 130-year-old building necessitated extensive preconstruction measures to ensure quality and constructability around upgrades for code, seismic, fire, life safety, HVAC systems, and accessibility. Another major change to the building’s interior included the conversion of the 4th floor attic space into usable classroom, gallery and teaching space; a new elevator was installed for improved accessibility across all floors. Other major efforts of the Fairbanks modernization included: a full roof replacement; site enhancements of the parking lot, sidewalks, and all entrances; the demolition of an annex building; and new landscape features.
