Providence Health & Services, Willamette Falls Medical Center, Hospital Expansion, Oncology Wing and Central Utility Plant

Fortis’ portfolio of work at the Providence Willamette Falls Medical Center includes everything from offices and MRIs to roof replacements and a new clinic for Women’s Healthcare Associates. This $34M, 33,000sf Hospital expansion is the largest Fortis project on the campus to date. The expansion within the constrained-and-active Willamette Falls Medical Center encompasses: demolition of the existing endoscopy wing; construction of a new three-story facility connected to the existing Medical Center; a new oncology wing with pharmacy mixing rooms on the second floor of the expansion; a new central utility plant including chillers, cooling towers, AHUs, electrical gear, emergency generators, and boiler systems; rework of existing major utilities; new electrical feed to the hospital; and rework of all parking lots at the Medical Center. Because of the extensive construction activities adjacent to sensitive and occupied areas, Fortis’ communications and collaboration went well beyond weekly coordination meetings. At the start of each day, the Fortis team worked with hospital staff to ensure all understood the daily work plan and that disruptions could be mitigated. This transparent and proactive communication kept Providence leadership, staff and all subcontractors aligned to ensure the greatest reduction in risk and the highest level of safety.
