The $7.1 million renovation and seismic upgrade of the historic Willamette Building allowed PCC to consolidate all of its administrative functions within one LEED Gold Certified location. The renovated and rehabilitated space now houses five administrative departments that support multiple PCC campuses throughout the Greater Portland area. Within this building that was originally constructed in 1882, the interior renovation removed harmful materials; provided a structural and seismic upgrade; upgraded to high-performance mechanical and lighting systems; created a new fire/life safety system; and delivered modern office space. In more detail, the interior space is organized around a central atrium area with a new, exposed architectural stair. Also, open offices and public spaces were built out along the exterior wall to maximize daylight, while enclosed spaces were improved with the incorporation of full-height relights. Exterior upgrades included a new canopy, signage, paint and the sealing of historic windows. Taking advantage of the location’s busy downtown corner, a large conference room with PCC branding was built to garner attention.
