Alliant Systems, Portland Headquarters

Fortis’ trusted relationship with Alliant was developed through two decades of project partnerships. So, when Alliant bought Fortis’ headquarters building in Portland’s Goose Hollow neighborhood, our intimate knowledge of the building and its systems was a benefit to Alliant.

The 1705 SW Taylor building previously housed multiple businesses including a daycare, real estate partnership, and the Fortis offices. Therefore, making the space cohesive was a challenge: our preconstruction team worked closely with the design team of Woofter Bolch Architecture and Nossa Norman Studio to explore six different cost models and layout options to ensure an ideal program that was within Alliant’s budget.

The two-story, 24,700sf wood-framed structure required extensive interior renovations including a new elevator, infill of the existing stairwell to expand the second-floor kitchen, and a new stairwell with an atrium to bring natural light to both floors. The existing mezzanine was demoed to create high ceilings and a welcoming open office design with flexible desk seating, conference rooms, private offices, phone booths, and employee gathering spaces. New restrooms were added to both floors along with locker rooms and bike storage. Site improvements included a relocated building entry, reworked sidewalks and curbs, new streetlights, and landscaping.
