Lane Transit District, Operation Command Center

Lane Transit District (LTD) first hired Fortis Construction in 2009, for the expansion and renovation of its Fleet Services Facility. Based on the success of the project as well as Fortis’ track record of success in the interim, LTD hired Fortis once again when it came time to expand the campus with a new Operation Command Center.

The 15,710sf LTD Operation Command Center consists of a 9,250sf renovation and a 6,460sf addition to house Lane County’s critical transportation services. The remodel of the existing 1989 facility provides a modern operations and emergency dispatch, monitoring center, training classrooms, employee lounge, and a wellness center to streamline efficiency and increase employee development.

To align project goals and the design with the $11.6M budget, Fortis collaborated closely with PIVOT Architecture, developing numerous studies for cost-saving solutions. These studies included analyzing the lifecycle costs of emergency power options and providing multiple detailed estimates for different boardroom configurations to better inform the stakeholders as design decision were made.

During the 14 months of construction, Fortis ensured the occupied renovation minimized disruption to the Center and adjacent transit facilities’ normal transit-system operations. The project—completed nearly three weeks ahead of schedule—contributes to LTD’s mission of creating a more connected, sustainable, and equitable community.
