Fortis completed a $9M full renovation, expansion and seismic upgrade of Portland’s 808 Building. Originally built in the 1950s, the 25,580sf structure was converted into the showcase office and laboratory for Oregon Reproductive Medicine. The overall building and lab structure was carefully braced and insulated to protect sensitive instruments from vibrations caused by the MAX light-rail, which operates within 10 feet of the building. Fortis also upgraded the envelope to improve levels of natural daylight and the aesthetic appeal as well as delivered a highly specialized mechanical system for the reproductive lab. Through extensive preconstruction efforts and the utilization of our in-house MEP expertise, Fortis was able to work closely with the owner and design team to realize cost savings in excess of $400,000 by value engineering and equipment selection that did not comprise functionality.
