Supporting the University of Utah College of Mines and Earth Science program, the new prefabricated-and-modular, 600sf ISO 6 & 7 clean room is used for rock testing and experimentation, utilizing 260 highly toxic and unique chemicals that are stored and tested in the space.

The project, located on the fourth floor of the active Frederick Albert Sutton Building, included: demolition of the existing space; buildout of the clean room; installation of new mechanical, electrical, and plumbing systems; and an assortment of upgrades including modern lab equipment and furnishings, fume hoods, a water purifier, and specialized doors and hardware.

To minimize disruption to the students, researcher, and classes while working in the functioning building, drilling and loud noise-producing work were completed off-hours and coordinated daily with facilities staff.
