Fortis and Architectural Nexus partnered for this $3.1M upgrade of the Huntsman Cancer Institute Lab in the active University of Utah Hospital. The 16,040sf project remodeled the interior of the existing cancer tissues research laboratory and support rooms, including new paint, temporary removal of laboratory equipment, replacement of laboratory furniture, 25 prefabricated workbenches, casework, sinks, countertops, flooring, lighting upgrades, repairs to ceiling tiles, and upgraded electrical, plumbing, and medical gas systems. With a two-phased approach, extensive planning, coordination, and hospital-staff communications were critical to keeping a portion of the lab operational during construction. Fortis adhered to ICRA and ILSM protocols for infection control and life safety while minimizing disruptions to the adjacent patient care and treatment spaces.
