For the Oregon Zoo, Fortis completed work on two separate areas. The first part of the project was the Cascade Marsh Aviary Renovation, which replaced worn, outdated netting and fencing around the bird and beaver areas, as well as minor earthwork and landscaping. The second part was the African Lagoon Renovation, which consisted of landscaping, new shotcrete pools, installation of pool filtration equipment, bird holding areas, animal caging with specialized steel doors, designed rock walls and mechanical/electrical upgrades. The habitat needed to be ready for the new flamingos arriving at the Zoo in February. The schedule was very constricted because of the complex logistics of working around visitors; extensive coordination was needed for road access to the work areas and for mechanical/electrical shutdowns.
