The Oregon Military Department is working toward accomplishing its Long-Range Masterplan, with demolition and abatement of 200+ abandoned buildings across the 20,000-acre base (formerly the Umatilla Army Depot). Once completed, this effort will provide a new home for the Oregon National Guard 1st Infantry Training Battalion of the 249th Regional Training Institute. OMD selected Fortis for the effort, starting first with months of advance planning to effectively approach the more than 1,000,000sf of munition bunkers and a large array of diverse building types on site. These bunkers and buildings were originally constructed in 1941 in preparation for WWII and were used to create, maintain, and store munitions; all buildings have been abandoned for decades. Facility types include but are not limited to: ammo continuance, barricade and deboostering for decommissioning live explosives, inspector workshops, munition bunkers, siren towers, TNT storage, traffic control centers, transmitter houses, warehouses, and weapons-storage bunkers.
