With a long-running record of success collaborating with architecture firms to ensure quality and budget goals for their own headquarters, BRIC Architecture selected Fortis for the overhaul of its existing space.

In detail, Fortis modernized BRIC Architecture’s 9,659sf in four months within an occupied building in downtown Portland’s Pearl District. The result is a modern, flexible, and collaborative headquarters that includes: a range of refreshed workspaces; upgrade kitchen/café; customized material library; design-build MEP updates; new walls and partitions; a 9Wood ceiling; and new finishes, including exposed concrete flooring and acoustic felt wraps and screens. BRIC’s new headquarters fosters an interactive environment through elements such as wall-mounted tack panels and marker boards throughout, providing a variety of spaces for brainstorming and collaboration. A new conference room and phone booths support in-person and virtual meetings, with an open-and-collaborative office area complemented with a large-scale, open kitchen and materials library.

In order to meet the brief window of time for construction while minimizing disruptions for BRIC Architecture, Fortis worked with the project’s architect Thunder Egg Collaborative to develop an effective plan for swing space. This allowed for all BRIC employees to relocate within the same building for the four months of construction and minimized efforts to move back into the space.
