Biomedical firm Acumed experienced a period of rapid growth, so it turned to Fortis to expand and remodel its Cornelius Pass Campus and lead the conversion of an existing 55,000sf facility into a new Brookwood Campus. With a design-build delivery method, Fortis performed design management and construction management, including leading the team through programming, user group meetings, interdisciplinary design coordination, budgeting, and design approvals for all phases of Acumed’s two campuses. In more detail, Acumed’s expansions included a new 30,000sf manufacturing floor with new MEP infrastructure, a new call center, engineering offices, a new shipping/receiving facility, new lunch room facilities and a bioskills training lab/classroom. The new bioskills training lab included a new, state-of-the-art 4,000sf cadaver lab to train surgeons on the use of Acumed’s implants with two classrooms, interactive audio/visual technology, client locker/changing facilities, surgical lighting and lab support spaces.
